10 Tips Before Playing Monster Hunter Stories 3
The latest entry in the Monster Hunter spin-off series features turn-based combat and creature collecting similar to that of Pokémon. With a dense semi-open world and crunchy RPG mechanics, you can spend dozens of hours building an ideal party of Monsties. These tips will help you survive the game’s colorful, monster-filled world.
Bring a diverse set of weapons. There are three weapon types—Pierce, Blunt, and Slash—and monster body parts are weak to specific kinds. You can carry up to three weapons in battle, so try to have one of each type and pick specific weapons that match your playstyle.
For example, Hunting Horns and Hammers are both Blunt, but the former emphasizes support with buffs while the latter deals much higher damage. Don’t be afraid to experiment. Combat runs on a rock-paper-scissors system: Power beats Technical, Technical beats Speed, and Speed beats Power.
