10 Years Later, Anya Taylor-Joy’s Best Psychological Thriller Still Holds Up
Ten years after its release, Split is finding a new audience on streaming and has reappeared in Apple TV’s global VOD top 10 in multiple countries. The M. Night Shyamalan thriller has continued to attract viewers who revisit it or discover it for the first time.
Made for just $9 million, the film went on to earn more than $278 million worldwide and maintains solid approval ratings—79% from both critics and audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. The plot follows three girls kidnapped by a man with dissociative identity disorder who exhibits 23 personalities and threatens to reveal a 24th.
Split helped raise Anya Taylor-Joy’s profile alongside James McAvoy, and the cast also includes Haley Lu Richardson, Betty Buckley, and Jessica Sula. Taylor-Joy has since become a major movie star, with roles that include Princess Peach opposite Chris Pratt in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and a new Apple TV series slated for this summer, plus recent turns in Furiosa and The Gorge alongside Chris Hemsworth and Miles Teller, respectively.
