People reports a 16-year-old Australian girl and a 38-year-old man were killed when the ATV they were riding collided with a pickup truck on the Murchison Highway between Rosebery and Zeehan in Tasmania on Jan. 3. Officials said the crash occurred around 4:30 p.m. and a preliminary investigation found a Mitsubishi Triton and a Honda ATV struck each other.

Despite medical aid from tourists who stopped to help, both victims died at the scene. The truck driver, a 40-year-old man, was uninjured and will undergo standard drug and alcohol testing; police said, "Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of both the deceased," and added a report will be prepared for the coroner.

An investigation is ongoing and Tasmania Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Following the crash, family friend Ella Mackrell launched a GoFundMe to bring the teen's body home and cover travel, lodging and funeral costs. The donation page identified the girl as Adasyn Wood Savin of Newcastle, New South Wales, who was visiting Rosebury during the school holiday and riding the ATV with a family friend.
