20 Years On, Matt Damon's 91% RT Crime Classic Dominates Streaming
Matt Damon recently voiced frustration with the constraints of streaming while promoting The Rip, saying films designed for a streaming audience typically feature heavy exposition to account for other distractions. He is returning to a more theatrical, cinema-first form of filmmaking and will headline Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey this summer, a picture that will likely overtake The Martian to become his highest-grossing movie ever.
One of Damon's most acclaimed hits remains the Martin Scorsese crime drama The Departed, released theatrically two decades ago and featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg, and Vera Farmiga. The 2006 film grossed nearly $300 million worldwide against a reported budget of $90 million, surpassing the global grosses of Good Will Hunting and The Bourne Identity, which took in $225 million and $214 million respectively, and it emerged as Scorsese's highest-grossing hit until that point.
The Departed also won Scorsese his first Best Director Oscar and the Best Picture honor.
