25 Years Later, Heath Ledger’s Cult Fantasy Romance Exits Free Streaming
A Knight's Tale, the 2001 medieval romance starring Heath Ledger, will leave the ad-supported streamer Tubi after March 31, leaving just over two weeks to watch the film for free. Ledger plays William Thatcher, a low-born squire who adopts a noble identity to compete in jousts and win the heart of Jocelyn, played by Shannyn Sossamon.
The film also features James Purefoy as Edward the Black Prince and performances from Rufus Sewell, Mark Addy, Paul Bettany, Laura Fraser, and Alan Tudyk. Brian Helgeland wrote and directed the picture. He later helmed the baseball biopic 42 starring Chadwick Boseman and, more recently, Finestkind with Jenna Ortega, and he had previously worked with Clint Eastwood on the Oscar-winning Mystic River.
Though initial reception was muted, A Knight's Tale went on to earn $117.5 million at the box office and holds a 79% viewer score on Rotten Tomatoes.
