Maguire said there are well over 115 charges and posed the question of how a split decision would be handled, noting that different outcomes could favour the Premier League or Manchester City. He suggested non-cooperation by City is fairly likely and would probably attract a significant fine, as happened in UEFA cases, and that a points deduction would be viewed by the Premier League as a victory.

He reiterated that the league cannot relegate Manchester City to League One or League Two because relegation is an EFL decision, so any punishment would have to be a points deduction. Pointing to precedent, Maguire noted Everton and Nottingham Forest received six and four-point deductions respectively for a single offence covering three years, while the accusations against City span nine years.

He argued that, by that logic, adding a zero to those penalties would lead to a deduction somewhere between 40 and 60 points to remain consistent with past decisions.
