6 new movies and shows to watch this weekend (March 6-8)

This weekend brings six new films and series to major streaming platforms, spanning sci-fi action, dramedy and animation. Highlights include a new Netflix action movie led by Alan Ritchson and a Prime Video series that explores Sherlock Holmes’s youth. War Machine on Netflix stars Alan Ritchson and is directed by Patrick Hughes.

The film, whose first trailer gave strong Predator vibes, is set during the final stage of U.S. Army Ranger selection when an elite team’s training exercise becomes a fight for survival against an unimaginable threat. Ritchson’s Ranger, codenamed '81', must lead his squad against a giant mech; War Machine is available on Netflix from March 6.

Young Sherlock on Prime Video, produced by Guy Ritchie, casts Hero Fiennes Tiffin alongside Dónal Finn, Zine Tseng, Joseph Fiennes, Natascha McElhone, Max Irons and Colin Firth. Based on Andrew Lane’s spin-off books, the series follows a disgraced young Holmes who, in his first case, uncovers a global conspiracy that sets him on the path to Baker Street.
