7 Worst HBO Miniseries, Ranked
HBO has built a reputation for getting things right more often than not, but a handful of its miniseries stand out for failing at a basic level. These projects often had strong names attached and room to find their footing, yet problems kept piling up until little of the intended story remained.
Some shows struggled with point of view and character: The Mind of the Married Man centers on Micky Barnes and his male conversations about sex and marriage but shows little curiosity about the women involved, leaving its humor flat. Camping leans on relentless interpersonal discomfort around Jennifer Garner’s Kathryn without meaningful development, while Here and Now introduces many themes about identity and family that never get enough space to land.
Other failures come from pacing and tone. The Casual Vacancy rushes through dark conflicts in a small English town, stacking abuse and poverty instead of building them gradually.
