76,000 Pounds of Potatoes Spill on I-15 After Nevada Semi Crash
About 76,000 pounds of potatoes were scattered across the I-15 freeway north of Las Vegas on Friday, Jan. 30 after two tractor-trailers and a passenger car collided, KLAS reports, citing Nevada State Police. The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. local time.
Nevada State Police said one of the tractor-trailers spilled roughly 76,000 pounds of potatoes onto the highway, which is south of Mesquite, Nev., nearly 100 miles north of Las Vegas.
There were no fatalities in the crash, though one person was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, NSP spokesperson Shawn Haggstrom told KLAS and KSNV.
A cleanup crew later removed the vegetables from the road, and FOX5 Vegas reported that by 8 a.m. local time the potatoes had been cleared and all lanes were reopened.
PEOPLE has reached out to Nevada State Police for further information. The report notes a similar incident on Aug. 1, 2025, when thousands of frozen hot dogs spilled across Interstate 83 in Pennsylvania after a multi-vehicle accident, with four people injured, NBC News and the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company said at the time.
