'9-1-1' Season 9 Finally Delivers a Near-Perfect Episode

Season 9, Episode 12, "Dads and Cads," opens as a crossover with 9-1-1: Nashville and takes place entirely in Los Angeles. It advances several key storylines while setting Buck and Eddie up to compete at the Firefighter Games in Nashville, and it finds a steady balance of humor and heart.

Buck learns he and Eddie were entered in the Games a year earlier, revealing that Bobby had faith they would be together and that he even foresaw Eddie’s return. The revelation ties the competition into Buck’s lingering grief and reinforces the series’ focus on the 118 as a chosen family.

When Buck and Maddie’s parents announce they are selling their RV and getting a divorce, the siblings react very differently: Maddie is shaken, while Buck is largely unbothered.
