The thirteenth episode of 9-1-1's ninth season, "Mother's Boy," earned a 9.5 on IMDb, the highest rating the series has received across its nine seasons. The show has also been renewed for a tenth season, and its spin-off 9-1-1: Nashville received a second-season order.

The character-focused installment follows Buck (Oliver Stark) and Eddie (Ryan Guzman) on a road trip that began after the crossover with 9-1-1: Nashville. The trip included a sing-along to Kansas's "Carry on Wayward Son" and a swap of favorite Arnold Schwarzenegger films before taking a dark turn: Buck is kidnapped and Eddie ends up in the hospital.

The 9.5 rating tops earlier high scores such as Season 3's "Sink or Swim" (9.2), "The Searchers" (9.1) and "Fight or Flight" (9.0). The episode's emphasis on the bond between Buck and Eddie drew strong viewer response, and 9-1-1 is available to stream on Hulu and Disney+.
