Since Game of Thrones reignited interest in epic fantasy on television, streamers have chased big book properties—The Witcher, Shadow & Bone, The Wheel of Time, Percy Jackson & the Olympians and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power among them. TV has become an ideal home for sprawling fantasy, with streaming services able to provide sizable budgets and multiple seasons, though not every adaptation has survived long-term.

Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses helped spark the current romantasy trend, growing from a 2015 debut into a phenomenon amplified by BookTok. The five published books follow Feyre’s journey into the faerie lands, and fans have waited for more since 2021; Maas has announced books six and seven for October 2026 and January 2027, with titles, plots and covers still under wraps.
