Acurast has activated a 225,000-node smartphone compute network on Base, extending confidential onchain AI into mainstream Web3. The integration with Base, an Ethereum Layer-2 chain, enables developers to run confidential AI workloads directly onchain using millions of smartphones worldwide rather than relying on centralized infrastructure.

The network executes AI inference inside mobile Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs), keeping sensitive tasks secure while preserving privacy and verifiability. Workloads are distributed across devices in more than 140 countries, and inputs and outputs remain encrypted so node operators cannot see them; device owners and external observers are likewise prevented from accessing confidential data during processing.

Payments for compute now work natively in USDC on Base without bridging or offchain settlement, and the platform supports the x402 payment standard for instant, HTTP-native stablecoin transfers.
