Adam Levine & Benji Madden's Friendship
Adam Levine and Good Charlotte rocker Benji Madden, serving as Team Adam's Battle Advisor this season on The Voice, go way back. As Levine put it on the March 16 episode, "We're like really, actually homies. It's not just on TV." Levine called Madden "so savvy in the industry" and noted he has coached on The Voice Australia with his twin brother Joel.
Madden reflected, "When I was younger I made a lot of mistakes. Now I try to be the guy I wish I'd met," then joked, "I am in your favorites on your phone, so I’m the first name that came up." The two traced their connection to a festival years earlier. "We really met at a festival.
You guys had put out your first record, I loved it, and I was like, 'I’m gonna go out of my way [to meet you],'" Madden recalled, and Levine added, "I remember seeing you guys and being like, 'Oh those are the Good Charlotte guys, they’re super cool.'" The story notes this likely dates to the early 2000s after Maroon 5's Songs About Jane, though Madden may have meant 1997's The Fourth World.
