Aegon's Conquest Could Be the Game of Thrones Film Fans Deserve
With A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms wrapped, House of the Dragon heading into Season 3 and a Game of Thrones stage show on the way, HBO has also released information about a movie set in the same universe. Andor's Beau Willmon has reportedly submitted a script based on Aegon the Conqueror's story, suggesting an adaptation of one of the events fans most want to see.
The conquest offers clear ties to both Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon through the Targaryen family. Focusing on Aegon and his sisters Visenya and Rhaenys would address questions about their Valyrian heritage, dragon bonds and incest, while the dragon Vhagar — instrumental in the conquering and bonded to Queen Visenya long before Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) was born — provides an obvious link to the other series.
Aegon’s dream, a prophecy referenced in House of the Dragon and Game of Thrones, can further connect the film to the wider saga. The story’s scale also argues for a theatrical presentation.
