Affleck and Damon Reunite in Joe Carnahan Thriller The Rip
According to Movieweb, The Rip reunites Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in a Joe Carnahan–directed thriller on Netflix, with the pair playing Miami vice cops whose lieutenant is mysteriously assassinated and whose colleague Dane Dumars (Damon) steps into the post.
The film follows a tip for a money bust that yields far more cash than expected; while conducting the secret raid Dane confiscates the crew’s phones and has them wait as they work through the implications. The review says the ensuing distrust among the group drives a taut, twist-filled thriller that sometimes feels almost like John Carpenter’s The Thing and leans into a brash, Michael Bay–style, bro-y energy.
Cast members beyond Affleck and Damon include Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Kyle Chandler, Néstor Carbonell and Scott Adkins. The reviewer notes the movie is deceptively low-budget and largely set in one house, light on action but elevated by spirited dialogue, smart directing and the actors, calling it a "perfect piece of couch-lock entertainment" and adding, "I hope they make more of these."
