Afterburn Earns Streaming Success After $1.3M Theatrical Run
Six months after a modest theatrical showing, Afterburn has found an audience on streaming. Released Sept. 19, 2025, the post-apocalyptic thriller stars Dave Bautista as a treasure hunter in a world devastated by a solar flare. Directed by J.J. Perry and co-starring Samuel L.
Jackson, Olga Kurylenko and Kristofer Hivju, the film played a limited run in the Middle East, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Israel and earned $1.3 million against a $56 million budget. On Prime Video the film has risen into the global streaming charts, reaching the third spot per Flix Patrol, behind The Bluff and Bautista’s The Wrecking Crew.
It is not available on Prime Video in the United States; there it can be streamed on MGM+ via Amazon Channels. Critical response was largely negative, with all nine reviews on Rotten Tomatoes scoring against the film and no Tomatometer rating, while the Popcornmeter sits at 57 percent, reflecting a split audience reaction.
