War Machine debuted on Netflix on March 6. The sci‑fi action thriller stars Alan Ritchson as Staff Sergeant 81 and was directed, co‑produced and co‑written by Patrick Hughes. The story follows 81 after he encounters a mysterious metal machine described as somewhere between the Predator and a Transformer.

The film has received solid reviews and is dominating Netflix in the United States and worldwide, with many praising its no‑nonsense thrills and testosterone‑fuelled action. Ritchson and Hughes say they already have plans to continue the characters story: "Tons.

Let me say it for him, tons. War Machines is going to be sick. The whole thing, we got a whole thing." Hughes added that he knows "exactly" where a sequel would go and has already "sketched it out." Ritchsons 81 was inspired by a Pale Rider‑esque Western lead and remains largely unnamed and taciturn in the first film, leaving much of his backstory unexplored.
