Alan Ritchson’s War Machine Boosts Interest in Tom Cruise’s Oblivion

Alan Ritchson has risen to action-star prominence thanks to Reacher, the Prime Video series that showcased his imposing physicality. Tom Cruise’s earlier Reacher films drew criticism for his lack of stature compared with the books, and Ritchson later teamed with Kevin James on Playdate as a comedic Reacher-era replacement for the streamer.

Ritchson’s latest sci-fi blockbuster, War Machine, landed on Netflix last week and quickly became the service’s most popular movie since its premiere. The film follows a line of military-versus-alien thrillers with a Predator twist, evoking titles like Edge of Tomorrow and The Tomorrow War.

Fans have also revisited Tom Cruise’s Oblivion, which shares some thematic similarities despite its more post-apocalyptic setting: both center on skilled soldiers facing technologically advanced threats.
