Albanese says One Nation doesn’t represent working people
Anthony Albanese said One Nation was more likely to represent the interests of mining billionaire Gina Rinehart than working-class Australians, arguing the party opposes many advances won by trade unions. He accused One Nation of opposing “one job, one pay, same job, same pay”, legislation to enshrine weekend penalty rates and pay increases for workers in the care sector.
Albanese added that One Nation’s greatest supporter is Gina Rinehart and said “[Rinehart’s] not a working-class hero, but someone who’s advocated cuts to wages and cuts to working conditions.” The comments came during an hour-long YouTube interview with Karl Stefanovic on his independent podcast, recorded at the Lodge.
Albanese was the first Labor politician to appear on the show, whose guest list has been dominated by right-wing figures, and he discussed topics from Syrian detention camp repatriations to immigration and One Nation’s rising popularity.
