Alessandro Nivola Responds to Kennedy Family Criticism of Love Story
As FX’s Love Story heads toward its final episodes, the anthology’s portrayal of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette has drawn public criticism from JFK Jr.’s nephew, Jack Schlossberg, who urged viewers to treat it as fiction. Episode 6, “The Wedding,” follows John (Paul Anthony Kelly) and Carolyn (Sarah Pidgeon) as they move toward their big day while the Battery Park fight continues to spread in the news.
Alessandro Nivola, who plays Calvin Klein, said he understood Schlossberg’s protectiveness and that when he read the scripts he didn’t see the series as a hit job. Nivola described extensive research — watching interviews, reading a biography and studying vocal rhythms — to find the designer’s voice and make private scenes feel human.
He called the breakup scene between Calvin and Carolyn an “absolute gut punch,” saying it’s driven by rejection and a lingering, platonic love.
