Alex Garland's Devs is an eight-episode cyberpunk miniseries to binge
Movieweb reports that Alex Garland's eight-episode series Devs, which premiered on March 5, 2020 on FX on Hulu, is a compact cyberpunk thriller worth bingeing.
The show follows a software engineer, Lily Chan, who investigates her boyfriend Sergei's apparent suicide and uncovers a technology-based conspiracy tied to Amaya and its secret Devs division. Combining elements of cyberpunk, hard sci-fi and drama, the series explores themes such as free will, religion, obsession and moral responsibility and has been praised for its visuals and performances. Devs stars Sonoya Mizuno, Nick Offerman, Jin Ha, Zach Grenier, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny and Alison Pill, and received a Certified Fresh rating of 82% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a 78% audience score.
Devs was conceived as a self-contained miniseries with a clear conclusion rather than an open-ended show, so it was not "canceled" but completed its intended run. The series is still available to stream on Hulu and Disney+, and Garland's next project, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, is set to hit theaters on Jan. 16, 2026.
