Michael Sarnoski is being eyed to direct the sequel to Alien: Romulus, though neither he nor 20th Century Studios has commented. The 2024 film grossed $350 million worldwide and earned an 80% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and director Fede Álvarez has said he will not return for the next entry.

Sarnoski made his feature debut with Pig, starring Nicolas Cage, and followed with A Quiet Place: Day One, which opened June 28, 2024 and grossed $262 million worldwide. He is also attached to several upcoming projects: The Death of Robin Hood is scheduled to open on June 19, 2026, and he signed on as writer and director of the Death Standing adaptation in 2025, a film that creator Hideo Kojima has said is aiming for a 2027 release date.

Those commitments could delay the Alien: Romulus sequel. If Sarnoski directs Death Standing for a 2027 release, the next Alien film might not arrive until 2028 at the earliest.
