Fede Álvarez's Alien: Romulus topped HBO Max's global viewership charts after debuting on the service in several overseas markets, before later slipping to number five on the platform's global chart. The film grossed $350 million worldwide in 2024 and earned mostly positive reviews, holding a "Certified Fresh" 80% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

The site's consensus reads, "Honoring its nightmarish predecessors while chestbursting at the seams with new frights of its own, Romulus injects some fresh acid blood into one of cinema's great horror franchises." A sequel is in the works, though Álvarez has said he will not return.

The project was followed by Noah Hawley's Hulu series Alien: Earth in 2025. The cast included Isabela Merced, Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson. The film served as a comeback for Álvarez after the failed franchise reboot The Girl in the Spider's Web.
