All 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1 are now streaming on Netflix
Roland Emmerich’s 1994 film Stargate, co-written with Dean Devlin, was intended as the start of a trilogy. The movie did strong box office business but drew criticism for a cliché-ridden alien-invasion plot and melodrama, and MGM shifted the franchise toward television instead of producing the planned sequels.
That move led to Stargate SG-1, which launched in 1997 and ran for 10 seasons — all of which are now streaming on Netflix. In the film, an unearthed ring-shaped device in Giza proves to be a gateway that creates wormholes, sending linguist Daniel Jackson (James Spader) and Colonel Jack O'Neil (Kurt Russell) to the desert world Abydos to confront an alien god.
SG-1 picks up a year later with new iterations of those characters: O'Neill (Richard Dean Anderson) and Jackson (Michael Shanks) operating from Stargate Command.
