The Epstein files are the documents prosecutors gathered after Jeffrey Epstein first came under investigation in 2005. Since a law last November compelled their release, roughly three million pages from two criminal probes spanning 2006 to 2019 have been disclosed; they include financial records, emails, text messages, photos, videos and other materials.

Epstein had been on the sex offender registry since 2008. The most recent releases have not fundamentally altered the overall understanding of the case but have added detail about who associated with Epstein and how they behaved. Pages mention many international figures — including members of British and Norwegian royalty, former officials such as Peter Mandelson and Ehud Barak, and others — and note that many young women in the files came from Eastern Europe and Russia.

The records underscore patterns in elite social networks and highlight class dynamics in how some wealthy men treated vulnerable young women, many described in the files as coming from poor or troubled backgrounds.
