People reports that Allie Reece, a recent Kennesaw State University graduate who moved back to Canton, Ga., experienced months of shoulder pain and was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at 23. Reece initially dismissed a mild ache in her collarbone and shoulder as sleeping wrong while transitioning after graduation, and the pain came and went over several months.

In April 2025, two weeks after a day on the golf course, she woke with a sharp, stabbing pain and went to the emergency room; a CT scan showed a chest mass roughly the size of an orange and physicians suspected lymphoma. Multiple biopsies initially returned benign results, and a cervical mediastinoscopy at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta still did not provide clarity until a PET scan revealed the mass and an affected lymph node; surgeons then performed a robotic thymectomy and removed the mass, which was wrapped around her heart and lungs.

In August 2025 her oncologist confirmed Hodgkin’s lymphoma and Reece began an eight-round ABVD chemotherapy regimen, experiencing fatigue, nausea and hair loss. She shared her treatment and head-shaving journey on TikTok, reaching more than five million people and building a community of over 100,000 followers, and she also froze her eggs through IVF.
