Movieweb reports that the anime prequel Altered Carbon: Resleeved reunites Takeshi Kovacs with his sister Reileen earlier in Netflix’s adaptation than previously depicted. The piece notes that Netflix cancelled Altered Carbon in February 2020 after two live-action seasons, and that Resleeved, which dropped in March 2020, is an almost-feature-length anime that follows Takeshi’s life long before Season 1 rather than presenting events only as flashbacks.

The adaptation preserves the book’s major twist that Reileen is alive, but Resleeved adds a wrinkle: Takeshi is decanted into a new sleeve on Latimer about a year after Reileen’s apparent death and, while working as an envoy, ends up on a mission alongside her. Both siblings are in new bodies and do not immediately recognize one another; a childhood song hummed by Takeshi and Reileen’s reflexive use of “Tak” prompt her realization while she deliberately lets him believe she is just another mercenary.

Resleeved concludes with the mission complete and Takeshi asking, “So tell me what's next,” a line that sets up a potential sequel.
