Amazon to begin testing AI tools for film and TV production next month
Techcrunch reports Amazon will begin a closed beta program in March, inviting industry partners to test AI tools developed by its AI Studio; the company expects to share initial outcomes from the program by May. The AI Studio, launched last summer, is building proprietary tools to streamline TV and film production, with a focus on improving character consistency across shots and supporting pre- and post-production.
Amazon said it is tapping Amazon Web Services, intends to work with several LLM providers, and is collaborating with producers including Robert Stromberg, Kunal Nayyar and former Pixar animator Colin Brady. Albert Cheng, who leads the AI Studios initiative, emphasized the tools are meant to support creative teams rather than replace them, aiming to improve efficiency, reduce costs and protect intellectual property by preventing AI-generated content from being absorbed into other models.
The company chose not to provide further details when approached by TechCrunch for a comment.
