Americans Abroad: Pulisic, Musah and Tillman face a crucial weekend

This season has been uneven for Americans playing abroad. Christian Pulisic started on fire but has cooled off, Malik Tillman has flashed at times yet struggled, Yunus Musah has worked his way back into the picture and Weston McKennie appears to be playing his best soccer, earning a new contract at Juventus.

With the World Cup three months away, there is a now-or-never feel for players hoping to break into Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. Eighteen months ago Musah looked like a shoo‑in for the USMNT, but his loan move to Atalanta left him short of minutes for much of the season.

He said this year’s adversity may have shaped him, and he has only recently returned to the fold; Atalanta sit seventh, five points outside the Champions League places, and face top‑of‑the‑table Inter, who have not scored in their last two matches.
