Amorim assistant: manager needed more time to implement ideas
Ruben Amorim was sacked in January after a 14-month spell at Manchester United that left a divided fanbase and a struggling squad. His assistant, Adelio Candido, has said the management team were not given the runway to execute a long-term vision in the Premier League.
Amorim arrived with a strong reputation after guiding Sporting CP to multiple trophies and sought to overhaul United's playing style, but the transition proved difficult. His signature back-three system often failed to take hold, the squad looked disconnected, and he won less than a third of his 47 Premier League matches, leaving a 38.1% overall win rate.
Candido said he enjoyed the city and the supporters but felt their ideas were not fully implemented: "In Manchester, I liked the city a lot and the way that the fans live and breathe football, more focused on the project than on immediate results.
