New films starring Amy Adams, Channing Tatum, Pamela Anderson, Callum Turner and Charli xcx, and the directorial debut of British rapper-actor Ashley Walters, will headline next month’s Berlin film festival. The 76th Berlinale runs from 12 to 22 February and is the first major European cinema showcase of the year.

Berlinale director Tricia Tuttle unveiled a lineup of 22 pictures vying for the Golden and Silver Bear prizes; the festival will spotlight new work from 80 countries and the awards will be decided by a jury chaired by veteran German film-maker Wim Wenders. Contenders include At the Sea by Kornél Mundruczó, featuring Adams as a dancer struggling with sobriety at her family’s Cape Cod home after rehab, and Josephine by Beth de Araújo, in which Tatum and Gemma Chan play parents seeking justice after a child witnesses a brutal crime.

Karim Aïnouz’s Rosebush Pruning brings together Callum Turner, Pamela Anderson, Riley Keough, Jamie Bell and Elle Fanning in what Tuttle called a "twisted thriller" set at a Spanish villa. Other highlights named by organisers include A New Dawn by Yoshitoshi Shinomiya, Queen at Sea by Lance Hammer with Juliette Binoche and Tom Courtenay, Sandra Hüller in Rose, Rupert Grint in Nightborn, and Charli xcx presenting The Moment in the Panorama section, a mockumentary by Aidan Zamiri co-starring Alexander Skarsgård.
