Andre Onana backed to fight for Man Utd place
Andre Onana has been backed to fight for his Manchester United place when his loan at Trabzonspor ends this summer. He moved to the Turkish side last September after the arrival of Senne Lammens, who leapfrogged Altay Bayındır and prompted Onana’s temporary exit.
Onana had been United’s regular following his 2023 move from Inter but was dropped by the Portuguese boss at the start of this season, making only one appearance in the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby in August. Geremi, a close friend and compatriot, said Onana is clearly talented and expected to return to Manchester to contest the starting spot rather than seek a permanent exit.
He added that Onana thrives when presented with a challenge and that big clubs need characters who stand up after poor games. Michael Carrick remains in charge until the end of the season and United have yet to appoint a successor; Carrick has overseen five wins and a draw from six matches and praised Lammens for his calmness and composure.
