Andy Carroll began his Dagenham and Redbridge managerial career with a 1-0 victory over Torquay United on Saturday, watched by minority owner and YouTuber KSI. The winning goal came from George Marsh, who scored directly from a corner at the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium, and Carroll celebrated the result with his family after the game.

Carroll was placed in interim charge after the sacking of Lee Bradbury, having joined the club on a three-year contract last summer; his appointment came weeks after KSI’s investment was announced. The 37-year-old has seven goals in 13 games for the club but has not played since December because of injury, undergoing surgery on a fractured foot and ligament damage in January.

He admitted he was nervous before kick-off: “Honestly, before the game, I was all nerves and a little bit stressed.” KSI hopes to mirror the Wrexham model as Dagenham chase a late run, with the Daggers now five points off the play-offs with six games remaining.
