Andy Dick says brain scan found 'five to seven holes' after overdose
Andy Dick said a brain scan after his near-fatal December overdose showed “five to seven holes.” On the Howie Mandel podcast he said his heart stopped and he was not breathing, with no memory of the incident until waking in the ambulance; he joked there were no bright lights when he came back.
The scan revealed lesions that Dick attributed to years of drug and alcohol abuse. His representative said the brain damage stemmed from a 2019 attack that nearly killed him and added that they are assured his brain will heal; the rep also said Dick has been battling addictions for years but is healthy, sober and doing great following the December incident.
Medical experts note such lesions can arise from multiple causes, including traumatic brain injuries and chronic stress. Friends filming him in Hollywood say he ran off and smoked crack with a stranger on Dec. 9, leaving a video that showed him slumped on cement stairs.
