Anna Wintour and Chloe Malle sat for their first joint interview, marking a new chapter at American Vogue. Ms. Malle took over as editor in September and her first print issue will hit newsstands on Feb. 24. Ms. Wintour remains on the masthead as global editorial director and Condé Nast’s chief content officer, still working from her corner office.

The conversation underscored a clear contrast in style. Ms. Wintour, 76, is known for sharp, concise opinions; Ms. Malle, 40, is more open about her enthusiasms and anxieties and said, “I don’t want the fact that I may be editing Vogue now to mean that I’m someone who’s intimidating to talk to at kindergarten drop-off.” Ms.

Malle has already overseen notable changes: the magazine’s print schedule was reduced to eight issues a year from 10 and is now printed on thicker paper to feel more collectible, and Teen Vogue was downsized and folded into Vogue’s website.
