Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has reopened negotiations with the US Department of Defense in a last-minute effort to secure continued access to Pentagon contracts as the company faces the possibility of being labeled a supply chain risk by the Trump administration.

He has been in talks with Emil Michael, the undersecretary of defense for research and engineering, to finalize terms governing the military’s use of Anthropic’s AI models. A new agreement would let the Pentagon continue using the company’s technology and could prevent a designation that would force defense contractors to cut ties.

Talks broke down sharply last week after the two sides failed to agree on language Anthropic said was necessary to prevent misuse.
