Anthropic Valued at $380 Billion After New Funding
Anthropic completed a new funding round that valued the company at $380 billion and raised an additional $30 billion, more than doubling its valuation since its previous round in September. The start-up, which makes the online chatbot Claude, faces speculation that it may pursue an initial public offering in the next 12 to 18 months.
The transaction included investments from Nvidia and Microsoft and was led by GIC, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, and Coatue. Other backers named in the round include MGX, an A.I.-focused investment firm created by the United Arab Emirates, and QIA, a Qatari sovereign wealth fund.
Microsoft and Nvidia had earlier said they would invest roughly $15 billion, and that money is included in the latest financing. Founded in 2021 by Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic has raised more than $57 billion to date from venture firms such as Menlo Ventures and Lightspeed and tech companies including Amazon and Google.
