Anthropic’s Claude Suffers Widespread Outage, Exposing AI Reliance

Anthropic’s AI chatbot Claude is experiencing a significant service disruption, leaving thousands of users locked out of the claude.ai platform. Anthropic's official status page identified an incident labeled “Elevated errors on claude.ai” at 11:49 UTC (2:49 PM EAT).

Users in India, Europe and parts of Africa reported HTTP 500 errors, failed login attempts, frozen prompts and complete site downtime. ChatGPT and Gemini were also reported down early in the outage but have since resumed, with isolated user complaints remaining.

The company confirmed it is actively investigating the issue, and early reports suggest the main web interface is affected while API access and services such as Claude Code remain operational. Many users described the outage as a productivity crisis, underscoring how deeply AI assistants are embedded in daily workflows.
