Apple has unveiled the AirPods Max 2, keeping the same look and $549 price as the previous model. The new headphones arrive nearly six years after the first-generation AirPods Max and two years on from the USB-C refresh. They run on Apple's H2 audio chip, bringing features such as Live Translation, Voice Isolation, Adaptive Audio and Conversation Awareness, along with Siri Interactions and Head Gestures.

The chip also enables using the Digital Crown to capture photos and videos in a supported camera app, and Apple says it provides 1.5 times more effective active noise cancellation. A new high-dynamic-range amplifier aims to boost fidelity, improving audio imaging for movies and games and adding depth to music.

Apple says the amplifier enhances Spatial Audio by better instrument localization, steadier bass response, and more natural mids and highs; the headphones also support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected with the included USB-C cable.
