Apple AirTag (2026) review: It's a little better and costs the same
Apple's second-generation AirTag leaves the concept unchanged: you buy it, attach it, and track the item when needed. The new model keeps the same dimensions, weight, and design as the original, but brings a few modest improvements after about a week of hands-on testing.
Precision Finding range has improved. Using an iPhone 17 Pro Max, the new AirTag was detectable from about 15 meters (49 feet) with two walls between devices and could be pinpointed at about 11 meters (36 feet). On the original AirTag, the best range was about 30 feet before the signal dropped.
The built-in speaker is noticeably louder too; the reviewer could hear an AirTag 2 placed in a backpack from another room. Battery life and physical specs remain the same: a replaceable CR2032 battery expected to last about a year, a 1.26-inch diameter, 0.31-inch height, and an 11-gram weight.
