Apple TV Expands 'For All Mankind' With 'Star City'
Apple TV has unofficially established itself as the streaming era's home of sci‑fi, and its plan to broaden one of its original universes will be very appealing to those who love The Expanse. Although not an actual prequel, the Apple TV project has been softly awarded that label by fans of both franchises, and it arrives at a moment when The Expanse’s future feels unresolved.
For All Mankind follows an alt‑history in which the Soviets beat the Americans to the moon, with the US losing the Space Race in 1969 and the rivalry never letting up. The main series mainly follows the Americans as humanity pushes farther from Earth, while the new spin‑off, Star City, will focus on how the winning side dealt with their victory and reframe those events through new eyes.
The shows’ grounded storytelling and relative scarcity of sci‑fi tropes echo The Expanse; they do not share continuity, but it is easy to imagine them in the same orbit. Despite relatively low viewership, For All Mankind has reached five seasons on the strength of its quality.
