Apple will use Google's Gemini models and cloud for upcoming AI features
Apple said on Monday that upcoming versions of its Apple Foundation Models for Apple Intelligence will be based on Google’s Gemini A.I. models and Google’s cloud services, and that those models will power Siri and other A.I. features. “After careful evaluation, Apple determined that Google’s A.I.
technology provides the most capable foundation for Apple Foundation Models and is excited about the innovative new experiences it will unlock for Apple users,” the companies said in a statement. The firms did not disclose the exact terms of the multiyear deal, and a Google spokesman said the partnership was not exclusive.
Alphabet’s shares ended trading on Monday at just under $332, the article noted. The announcement followed mounting questions about Apple’s plans for A.I. as other companies spent tens of billions on the technology. The report said the move reflects a more cautious approach by Apple: it is allowing Google to handle the expensive, laborious development of core A.I.
models that requires massive data centers and thousands of servers, while continuing its own work. Apple has previously faced delays and problems in its A.I. efforts: features from a June 2024 Apple Intelligence demo arrived later than expected and ran into hiccups, including notification summaries that misrepresented news and were disabled.
