Pcgamer reports that California-based studio A&R Atelier is developing a new Ecco the Dolphin game, with original Ecco producer Ed Annunziata serving as chief creative officer.

Plans for the project were first revealed last May alongside remasters of the 1992 original and its sequel Tides of Time, when a website launched bearing an 8,500-hour countdown. Andy Chalk calculated that countdown would end sometime in April 2026, and in January 2026 the developer and Annunziata's involvement were confirmed.

The 1992 Ecco the Dolphin was a bestseller on Sega Genesis after extensive marketing and was described as one of the era's most pitilessly difficult games. With the countdown pointing to April 2026, a full reveal remains several months away as of January 2026.
