Arab Leaders Condemn Remarks by U.S. Ambassador to Israel
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee sparked sharp criticism after saying on Tucker Carlson’s podcast that it “would be fine” if Israel “took it all,” referring to lands stretching from Egypt to Iraq. Arab and Islamic governments denounced the comments, and the U.S.
Embassy in Jerusalem said the remarks had been taken out of context and did not signal any change in American policy. In the interview, Mr. Huckabee said he believed God had given the land of Israel to the Jewish people and discussed Genesis 15, which promises territory from Egypt to the Euphrates.
He added, "But I don't think that's what we're talking about here today," while also acknowledging earlier positions in which he supported Israeli ownership of the occupied West Bank and called it by its biblical names. Saudi Arabia called the remarks “irresponsible,” saying they violated international law and the U.N.
