Arc Raiders issues hotfix after Discord SDK logged player data
Embark Studios announced a hotfix for Arc Raiders via the game’s official Discord server after discovering that the Discord software development kit had been storing “excessive user information” on the game’s server members. Timothy Meadows’ website outlines serious privacy and security violations affecting all players using Discord integration with the game.
Meadows says the Arc Raiders Discord SDK opened a complete Discord gateway connection identical to the one used by the Discord desktop app. Players who linked Arc Raiders and Discord through the game’s integration had all Discord events logged, including private direct messages; rather than filtering sensitive events, the SDK logged everything it received to disk.
Embark’s Discord announcement states the data was stored only locally on users’ machines and was not sent off those PCs. The studio said it will disable the Discord SDK logging, is conducting a deeper audit, and encouraged players with questions to contact support.
