Arc Raiders once had jump pads and the Snap Hook made you 'like Spider-Man'
Arc Raiders moved at a much faster pace during early development: Embark reduced the speed of everything by roughly 60% after shifting the game toward a PvPvE extraction shooter. The original reveal trailer shows players leaping around and sprinting at breakneck speed to Dancing on My Own, and even features a robotic character flying through the air — a moment production director Caio Braga later confirmed was one of the game's old jump pads.
Braga said the team removed jump pads for two reasons: they wanted play to be more tactical, and the pads clashed with the new, more grounded tone for the world. Before the pivot, the game felt much more heroic and whimsical. The Snap Hook, by contrast, has been in the game since the beginning and adapted better to the slower, more methodical gameplay Embark settled on.
Braga explained it used to be largely unrestricted, letting players move "like Spider-Man" and pull off wilder stunts, including riding Arcs.
