'Archive 81' Still Needs a Season 2

Finishing a gripping thriller and finding no clear conclusion is frustrating, and that’s the position fans of Archive 81 remain in. The series premiered on the streaming service in January 2022 and still only has one eight-episode season. Across those eight episodes, Dan Turner (Mamoudou Athie) takes a job restoring tapes about the Visser apartment building in New York City, which introduces him to Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi).

Dan doesn’t meet Melody in person; he watches her on the recordings, and the story quickly suggests the building may be haunted, that there was a fire, and that Melody’s past is far from straightforward. What makes Archive 81 compelling is its focus on character growth rather than shocks for their own sake.

Dan’s arc explores mental health, ambition, and family, and the series earns its twists by deepening those relationships and questions instead of relying on surprises alone.
