People reports the Arizona Supreme Court and several surrounding buildings were evacuated on Monday, Jan. 5, after the Arizona Department of Public Safety was notified at about 8 a.m. and tested a suspicious package that it said contained "multiple vials" of homemade explosive substances.

A letter sent to court staff said "a suspicious package was received by our mailroom and has tested positive for homemade explosives," per a document obtained by ABC 15. DPS Public Information Officer Bart Graves said the State Courts Building "remains closed as additional sweeps are taking place" and added that "once that process is completed, the package will be removed for further examination and then subsequent disposal." The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms' Phoenix branch posted on its X account that it was dispatched to the building "to investigate a suspicious substance found at the location." Arizona Gov.

Katie Hobbs wrote on X, "Thank you to our first responders and law enforcement for their swift action following the evacuation of the Arizona Supreme Court after a suspicious package tested positive for explosives." No injuries have been reported, and court hours are expected to resume as usual on Tuesday, Jan.
