Arne Slot confirms Mohamed Salah ruled out of Brighton showdown
Liverpool have been dealt a setback as head coach Arne Slot confirmed Mohamed Salah will miss Saturday's trip to Brighton. The Egyptian forward was forced off in the second half of the 4-0 Champions League win over Galatasaray and initial scans have ruled him out of the weekend match.
Slot described the injury as unusual for a player of Salah's durability and said the winger will not travel with the squad. He added the timing is unfortunate for Egypt but noted the upcoming international break gives the club a window for recovery, expressing hope Salah's careful approach to his body could speed his return within that two-week period.
The problems extend to defence, with Joe Gomez still a doubt. Gomez was named on the bench against Galatasaray but was never fit enough to play; Slot said he warned before the game he "didn't feel good" and that he might be available tomorrow but "definitely not to start." With Salah sidelined, Federico Chiesa, Rio Ngumoha, Cody Gakpo and Florian Wirtz are among those likely to vie for the attacking role.
